Which launch platforms AI engines actually cite

Launching gets you links and traffic — but only if AI engines cite the platform. We assessed 34 launch platforms for citations across ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, and mapped which industries each one suits.

Discord — gated, invisible to AI engines

Why this matters

A launch is only as visible as the engines that cite it

AI assistants increasingly answer “best tool for…” questions by citing directories, review sites and communities. Launch where those engines crawl and you keep earning recommendations long after launch day. Launch somewhere AI can't read — like a gated Discord — and the visibility evaporates the moment the thread scrolls away.

Coverage is a directional assessment based on crawler accessibility, domain authority and observed citation patterns as of Jun 2026 — not an audited measurement. See methodology below.

Headline findings

Six things the map tells you

Community sites win the citations

Reddit, Hacker News, Indie Hackers, DEV Community, Product Hunt, AlternativeTo and SaaSHub are cited across all six engines. They're launch channels and durable AI-citation sources at once.

Perplexity & Google reach the long tail

Smaller directories (TinyLaunch, SoloPush, Huzzler, ProductBurst) surface mainly through Perplexity and Google AI Overviews — the most aggressive real-time crawlers.

Grok

Grok rewards the X launch

Grok leans on X-native context, so a strong Tech-Twitter/X launch is one of the few reliable ways to earn Grok visibility — most directories don't.

Discord is a blind spot

Gated servers aren't crawlable, so Discord scores 0/6. Great for live feedback, near-zero for AI visibility — never make it your only launch venue.

Authority compounds

High-authority review sites get cited far beyond launch week. One AlternativeTo or SaaSHub listing can feed AI 'alternatives to X' answers for months.

Fit beats volume

Dev tools belong on HN / DevHunt / dev.to; SaaS on AlternativeTo / SaaSHub / Uneed; Web3 on Steemhunt. Matching category to engine strength matters more than platform count.

Industry fit

Which launch platforms suit your industry

Methodology & sources

How we assessed this

For each platform, Indexly assessed three signals: (1) crawler accessibility — whether the site is public and allows AI bots like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended in its robots.txt; (2) domain authority and inbound links; and (3) how often the platform's pages appear as cited sources across ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Coverage and industry fit are directional benchmarks to guide launch planning as of June 2026, not audited measurements — AI engines change what they crawl and cite frequently.

FAQ

Launch platforms & AI citations, answered

What does 'cited by an AI engine' mean here?

It means pages from that platform are crawlable by the engine's bots and commonly appear as cited or referenced sources in that engine's answers. A platform 'cited by all six' (e.g. Product Hunt, Reddit, Hacker News) regularly shows up across ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. Coverage is a directional assessment, not a guarantee — it shifts as engines update.

Why do some platforms only show up in Perplexity and Google?

Perplexity and Google AI Overviews run the most aggressive real-time web crawling and cite a far wider long tail of domains. Smaller, newer launch directories are reachable mainly through those two before they accumulate enough authority and inbound links to be surfaced by ChatGPT, Claude or Grok.

Why is Discord a blind spot for AI engines?

Most Discord servers are gated behind login and aren't crawlable, so their content rarely gets cited by any AI engine. Discord is excellent for engaged launch feedback, but a launch that lives only in Discord earns essentially zero AI visibility.

Which platforms are best for getting cited by AI?

Community and review sites with high authority — Reddit, Hacker News, Indie Hackers, DEV Community, Product Hunt, AlternativeTo and SaaSHub — are cited across all six engines, the most of any launch destinations. They double as launch channels and durable AI-citation sources.

How should industry change where I launch?

Dev tools and AI products do best on Hacker News, DEV Community, DevHunt and Product Hunt. Horizontal SaaS benefits from AlternativeTo, SaaSHub and Uneed. Web3 fits Steemhunt and Alternative.me. B2B SaaS leans on LinkedIn and review directories. Match the platform's audience and AI-citation strength to your category.

How was this analysed?

Indexly assessed each platform's crawler accessibility (robots.txt and AI-bot policy), domain authority, and how often its pages appear as cited sources across the six engines, as of June 2026. Figures are directional benchmarks to guide launch planning, not audited measurements.

Launch on the platforms AI actually cites — then track it

Use the directory to plan your launch, then let Indexly track which platforms and prompts are putting your brand in front of ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews.
